Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Certified Pedorthist?
A Certified Pedorthist is a healthcare professional who specializes in the design, manufacture, modification, and fit of custom footwear, including shoes, orthotics, and other devices, to address conditions affecting the feet and lower limbs.
What types of foot conditions do you deal with?
As a Certified Pedorthist, I am experienced in managing a wide range of foot conditions, including diabetic complications, neuropathy, foot deformities, amputations, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, arthritis in the foot or ankle, arch problems, heel pain and more. I work in conjunction with medical professionals to provide comprehensive care for these conditions.
What type of footwear do you offer?
I offer more than 100 different styles of footwear, including:
Custom footwear, diabetic footwear, safety footwear, hands free footwear, clogs, athletic footwear, sandals, slippers, socks, and orthotics are among the products I offer. Each item is meticulously chosen to ensure maximum support and comfort for my clients.
How much do your shoes cost?
Diabetic-safe footwear begins at \$130, while prefab diabetic inserts cost \$20 per pair, or \$50 for three pairs. Custom diabetic orthotics are priced at \$100 per pair, or \$250 for three pairs. A toe filler costs \$200. Work boots are available starting at \$140, custom orthotics from \$300, and custom footwear from \$575.
What is the difference between Custom orthotics & OTC orthotics?
OTC orthotics are produced according to your shoe size and may cater to different arch types. Despite this, a pair of orthotics is typically identical, even though it's likely that your feet are not. In contrast, custom orthotics are crafted to accommodate each foot individually. Factors such as thickness, material, and cushioning are tailored to meet your specific needs and lifestyle.
Do you offer orthotics for toe amputations?
Indeed, I provide toe fillers for big toe amputations, transmetatarsal amputations, and Chopart amputations.
What is the turnaround time for custom items?
Custom orthotics are usually ready within two to three weeks, whereas custom footwear can take from four to six weeks to complete. Customized items may be modified, but they are not eligible for return.
Do you offer any discounts for multiple purchases?
Yes, discounts for groups and organizations are available. Please contact me for further details.
What methods of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, major credit cards, debit cards, Afterpay, and certain insurance plans for diabetic footwear. For more information on insurance-eligible items, please contact me.
Do you accept insurance?
Beginning January 1st, 2025, I will only accept private payments and will no longer take insurance. I will supply all necessary documentation for you to seek reimbursement from your insurance company. You may use your FSA or HSA accounts for payments. Additionally, credit cards, debit cards, and Afterpay are accepted. Layaway options may be available as well.
What does your switch to private pay mean for your clients?
**Does this mean I get lesser services?**
No, you actually receive enhanced services. By moving away from insurance-based limitations, I can now offer you a wider variety of products that better suit your specific needs. Previously, I was restricted to providing only products from companies approved by your insurance provider, which sometimes limited your options. Now, I have the freedom to recommend the exact product that will work best for you, without being tied to third-party contracts.
**Will my insurance company reimburse me?**
In most cases, yes. Many insurance plans allow for reimbursement for out-of-network services. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm your specific coverage and ask about the process for submitting a reimbursement claim. I will provide you with all the necessary paperwork, including itemized receipts and product descriptions, but you may also need additional documentation from your primary care physician (PCP), such as a referral or diagnosis letter, depending on your insurer’s requirements.
**I'm on a fixed income and can't afford to pay out of pocket.**
I understand that paying out of pocket can be difficult, so I offer several flexible payment options to help make it more manageable:
- **HSA (Health Savings Account)**: You can use pre-tax dollars from your HSA to cover medical expenses, including orthotics and footwear, reducing your overall costs.
- **Afterpay**: This option allows you to split your payment into smaller installments, which can make larger purchases more affordable without any interest if paid on time.
- **Layaway**: I offer layaway plans that allow you to reserve products and pay them off over time. Once the balance is paid, you will receive your items.
I’m committed to working with you to ensure that you receive the products you need, regardless of financial constraints.
How to get reimbursed for diabetic footwear & orthotics
